The Major Project of the New York State Elks Association is the Home Service Program of the Cerebral Palsy Associations of New York State

As it was at its conception, the Home Service Program continues to be among the most unique programs serving people with disabilities in the United States. First, the program represents a powerful demonstration of active collaboration between a fraternal order, whose mission encompasses volunteerism and community service, and a statewide not-for-profit advocacy and provider agency. Second, the Home Service Program is New York's single largest information and referral service with a significant percentage of the funding from charitable contributions.

The program provides direct services to adults and children with disabilities and their families in their home communities. This dynamic effort has resulted in a significant improvement in the quality of life of citizens with disabilities and their families throughout the communities of New York State.

Services

Since the primary objective of the Home Service Program is to provide individualized services, its staff travel thousands of  miles throughout New York State to assist persons with disabilities and their families. They provide referral for appropriate evaluation and program services, advocacy, counseling, follow-up, and program development.

When you give to the Elks National Foundation, you’re doing more than funding the Elks National Drug Awareness and "Hoop Shoot" programs. You’re doing more than supporting the Community Investments Program and providing Emergency Educational Grants to the children of deceased or totally disabled Elks. You’re doing more than maintaining the Elks Veterans Memorial.

You're doing all that, and you're supporting Elkdom in our state through the New York State Major Projects, Inc.  Your donations to the Elks National Foundation during the 2006-07 Lodge year resulted in 169% of that donation being returned to the NYS Major Project.

During the 2006-07 Lodge year, the Elks of New York donated $272,740.27 to the Elks National Foundation. This year, the Foundation will give back the following:

State Charities Grant:
Special Projects Grant:
Bonus Grant:
$156,940.00
$114,540.00
$44,380.00
These grants help fund your state's major charitable project, as well as other philanthropic projects. Portions of these grants will also support our state's Drug Awareness Program, Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot and educational programs.
Most Valuable Student:
Legacy Award:

$100,000.00
$18,000.00
ENF will award a total of 25 "Most Valuable Student" scholarships to high school seniors from New York State. (Click here to check out New York State recipients.) In addition, New York will award up to 18 Legacy scholarships to children, grandchildren stepchildren of Elks. (Click here to check out New York State recipients.)
National Veterans
Service Commission:

$27,120.00

These funds will help provide aid and comfort to hospitalized veterans in New York State.
Grand Total: $460,980.00

That's a ratio of 1.690 for every dollar the Foundation received from New York state last year.

Since inception in 1928 through March 31, 2007, the Foundation has granted a total of $11,864,166.67 to our state, compared with our state's total donations of $8,597,423.67. That's a ratio of 1.380 for every dollar the Foundation has received from our state.

The Foundation's past support includes:

  • $4,615,853.00 in State Charities Grants
  • $1,268,725.00 in Special Projects Grants
  • $2,265,866.34 in "Most Valuable Student" Scholarships
  • $2,283,669.48 in Emergency Educational Grants to the children of deceased or totally disabled Elks
